The context

Understanding biodiversity isn't only about naming species — it's about grasping how deeply human choices shape the ecosystems we depend on. In partnership with Chatteris, Joyce Wong led a biodiversity quiz session at Po Kok Secondary School designed to make those connections tangible for students, while giving corporate volunteers a meaningful way to engage directly with young learners.

What we did

The session brought together 60 Secondary 4 and 5 students from biology and advanced English streams, alongside more than 20 corporate volunteers.

Through an interactive quiz format, participants explored how human activity affects ecosystems — both the impacts we intend and the ones we don't — unpacked surprising facts about the natural world, and examined the ecosystem services that quietly underpin our everyday lives.

Pairing students with volunteers encouraged cross-generational dialogue, turning the session into a shared learning experience rather than a one-way lecture.
